This newsletter lists a few major author events (in-person or on Zoom) in October (thus, Octevents) that are by and/or for authors. I hope to see many of you and welcome any comments and suggestions.
#1. A Conversation with Mary Jumbelic
2025.10.11, Saturday, 6-7:30 PM, Parthenon Books, Syracuse, NY. In person.
Mary Jumbelic has a distinctive career after receiving her M.D. and became a board-certified pathologist and former Chief Medical Examiner of Onondaga County, the first female to hold the role in all of Central New York. She is now an author, educator, and memoirist who shares stories about life to demystify death. She has published two memoirs: Here, Where Death Delights and Speak Her Name.
Mary and I met when we found out we were both writing memoirs and planning to self-publish. We discovered we have a great deal in common. To list just a few:
We have a distinctive career in competitive fields as working women with family and children
At a relatively advanced age, we started writing creatively based on true events and real people
We are passionate about our writing because we carry strong messages in our efforts and through our books
I hope our conversation will be intellectually stimulating, personally relatable, and fun to participate in by all involved.
I will also be signing my newest historical novel, Daughter of Blue City. You can read some background on the book by clicking the link/image below.
#2. The 9th Annual Local Author Meet & Greet
2025.10.18, Saturday, 12-3 PM, Baldwinsville Public Library, Baldwinsville, NY. In person.
Nicki Greenwood and Patricia Antone started this event 9 years ago. It has been a wonderful place for local authors to meet each other and their readers. This was the place I started my “local author” events two years ago. This event has always been dear to my heart.
This year’s event is organized by Jacquie Owens from the B’Ville Library. A total of 26 local authors will be there to meet each other and the readers.
A panel will be held from 1-1:30 PM with the topic, “Do you like to write in series or standalone books? Why?” The moderator is Yvonne Conte, and the panelists are Apple An, Heather D’Agostino, Merlyn Fuller, Dave Murray, and M.L. Pennock.
Hope to see many of you local people there. Get a signed book and talk to the authors about what you like to read. Ask them questions and engage in dialogues.
#3. Authorpreneur Guest Speaker Series
2025.10.30, Thursday, 6-7 PM. On Zoom
Wildebeest Publishing Co. invited me to give a presentation at their Authorpreneur Guest Speaker Series. The topic is: “From Life to Legacy: Mastering Your Story and Building Your Author Brand.” Here is a description of the presentation. I will be using my three narrative books, Las Crosses, Mother of Red Mountains, and Daughter of Blue City, as examples for the presentation.
More info at https://www.wildebeestpublishing.com/guest-speaker-registration
I do not earn any compensation for the presentation. It is a service I am happy to provide to benefit the authors. WPC generously offered that my friends can attend the event for free (the regular registration fee is $20). If you are interested in attending as my friend, please reach out to me for the free access.
