Golden Season
(Repost for 2024.11.05)
What a Harvest or Starting Season!
I hope you are enjoying this beautiful golden season, wherever you are! On my side, I have been extremely busy but have spent some quality time with Mother Nature to stay grounded and rejuvenate.
The most exciting news since you last heard from me: my new book, a historical novel, is to be released in late December! It is based on true events and true people. See below.
The highly anticipated vacation: a winter road trip! Being a university professor has the perks of having a winter break and a summer break. It has been a while since I took a break as long as four weeks! Details follow.
A few more exciting events are coming up, too! Read on.
Mother of Red Mountains: A Woman's Journey Through Revolutionary China
Description:
An ambitious civil engineer desperately wants to protect her baby girls in the shadow of China’s tumultuous mid-20th century.
Despite tragedies in her childhood, Jun crafts a stable life by changing her name twice to fit in a male-dominated and politically charged society. Ambitious and high-achieving in her career, she seeks help from her in-laws to care for the girls.
But when the Red Guards begin to threaten the young family because of their association with in-laws' capitalist class, Jun worries their very existence is in question.
With their safety frequently compromised, will Jun triumph over the grave danger she encounters and successfully protect and maintain a stable life for herself and her babies?

A Road Trip for the Winter Break
Many of you, especially if you've read Las Crosses, know I spent my first eight months in the U.S. in Las Cruces, NM. The place is so dear to my heart that it is the setting of my debut book. My last visit was in 1991 winter! I'll finally revisit it this winter! Although, sadly none of the people I knew back then are around at NMSU, the folks there are setting up a meeting with me!
I am also planning to visit a few other places in the surrounding areas in NV (e.g., Las Vegas), AZ (Phoenix, Tucson, Sedona, etc.), NM (Albuquerque, Santa Fe, etc.), and some national parks in CA (Joshua Tree and Death Valley National Parks, anyone?). Many of these places are mentioned in the book. Others are on my bucket list. If you happen to live in or close to these areas and would like to meet up, email me! I may do book readings and signings along the way if opportunities knock.
My trip will be reported in a travelogue in as much as a real-time as possible. Welcome to travel with me!
